Miron Sokole (1910-1985) was born in Odessa, Russia and came to the United States during World War I. Sokole graduated from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in 1921 and subsequently studied at the National Academy of Design. During the Great Depression Sokole worked with both the Federal Arts Project and the Works Progress Administration. Sokole was involved with the art community in Woodstock, NY, where he shared a studio with artist Milton Avery. During his lifetime he showed at numerous venues including: Salons of America, National Academy of Design (medal), Art Institute of Chicago, Whitney Museum of American Art, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Annual, Brooklyn Museum, Detroit Institute of Art, Milwaukee Art Institute, and Minneapolis Institute of Art. |
