April GORNIK
spacer
April Gornik (b. 1953) is an American painter known for her atmospheric landscapes. Her paintings are often compared to American Luminists due to her use of light and dreamy expanses of sky and sea. Although appearing realistic, her spaces incorporate imagination and the sublime, speaking to an emotional connection with landscape.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Gornik received a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1976. Her work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the National Museum of American Art, among many other public and private collections. Gornik has shown extensively, in one-person and group shows, in the United States and abroad. She received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Guild Hall Museum in 2003, and was the Neuberger Museums Annual Honoree in 2004.
