Cini Boeri (1924-2020) was an Italian architect and designer. After graduating from Politecnico di Milano with her architecture degree in 1951, Boeri worked with infamous Italian designer, Marco Zanusco, until she started her own professional career in Milan in 1963. She focused on industrial design, mostly designing single family homes, apartments and offices in her minimalist, modular style. Boeri also designed furniture, including her infamous Ghost Chair (Fiam Italia, 1987), which is made of a glass sheet that is formed into armrests, bench, and backrest. In her career, Boeri collaborated with many of the biggest names in design, including lighting brand Artemide, housewares company Rosenthal, and furniture makers Knoll, Magis, and Arflex.
Between 1981 and 1983, Boeri taught architecture and interior design at Milan Polytechnic. Her work has been displayed internationally at institutions such as the Louvre in Paris and MoMa in New York. Boeri was awarded the Compasso d'Oro Lifetime Achievement award in 2011 and named a Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. |
