Florence Ballin Cramer (1884-1962) painted still lifes, landscapes, and figurative works indebted to modernist simplification of form. A native New Yorker, she met her husband, Konrad, while studying in Munich. The couple emigrated to the United States in 1911, eventually settling in Woodstock, New York. Here they became integral figures in an already-thriving artist community that included Andrew Dasburg, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, and Elie Nadelman. The couple introduced non-objective European modernism to fellow artists and founded the Woodstock Art Association and the Woodstock School of Painting. |
