Lee Krasner (19081984) was an American Abstract Expressionist. Krasner primarily worked in oil on canvas and collage, often cutting up her own paintings to create her collage works. Undergoing many stylistic evolutions, her works range from drip paintings and painterly forms to geometric shapes and hard lines, in bright colors and monochrome. Krasner studied at the Art Students League in New York, the National Academy of Design, and was influenced strongly in her training under Hans Hoffman. She participated in the Works Progress Administrations Federal Art Project painting murals in the 1930s and joined the American Abstract Artists, through which she met her husband, Jackson Pollock. Krasner is one of the few female artists to have had a retrospective show at the Museum of Modern Art.
